Cube World's combat system is all about aiming, dodging, managing mana and stamina. Each class and specialization has its own flavors which need to be mastered by the player.
You need to aim with a crosshair, there is no target-locking.
You can stun your enemies by using strong special attacks.
You can roll to dodge attacks and interrupt combos of your enemies.
Subsequent attacks increase your combo counter, allowing you to ignore more and more armor of your enemy and dealing more damage.
There is no experience as in traditonal RPGs, but you can level up by finding artifacts. Finding these artifacts is the main objective in Cube World. They increase your exploration skills, such as hang gliding, climbing, swimming etc.
Progression in Cube World is gear-based. The gameloop revolves around obtaining more and more powerful items in the current questing land, until you are ready to clear its high-level dungeons or quests which reward you with an artifact.
Equipment is bound to the land where it is found (with the exception of plus-gear, which is still useful in neighboring lands). Your existing gear is weak in other lands and you need to start collecting gear again.
Items, quests, and enemies don't have levels, but rarities which are denoted by stars and color coded from white to green to blue to purple to yellow.
You need to keep your weapon and armor rarity in mind when attacking enemies or choosing your next quest.
The main tool of your explorations is the voxel-based world map. It allows you to scroll and zoom anywhere in the world to help you find your next destination.
It's up to you where to go next. You will learn to read the world map, find Shrines of Life, villages, towers, dungeons and more. NPCs will help you and mark quests on the map.
You can freely teleport to all discovered Shrines of Life. You can also book a flight on the eagle at the local flight master to travel to further locations.
You will also find items that enable you to ride, hang glide, and sail to your destinations.
You can mark interesting spots on the map so you never loose sight of them.
Use the travel history to find previously visited lands easily.
You can plan your next adventure together with your friends. Thanks to the land-bound progression system, no difficulty scaling is required.
You can craft equipment, potions, elixirs and food. Elixirs and certain food provide buffs such as resistances or attack power.
Tame pets by feeding them with the right pet food. They will fight alongside you and some of them are ridable.
You can find special items in each land, such as the Hang Glider, the Boat, the Divine Harp, Climbing Spikes and more. Each of them gives you certain advantages like easier traveling or being able to access locked areas.
